Amish Country in Ohio is composed of Holmes which is where approximately half of Ohio's Amish families live and some experts suggest that Holmes may become the first county in the country where the resident majority are Amish. Some counties surrounding Holmes also have Amish communities. Those include Wayne, Tuscarawas, and Coshocton. Visitors might also see to a lesser degree, Amish communities in Ashland and Knox counties. Why is this area of the state one of the most visited tourist area in the state? The answer is that this is beautiful country. Really beautiful country. It is also a glimpse of life the way it existed in Ohio before there were freeways, airplanes, cell phones and the internet. Many people are looking for an escape from the daily rush and they can find it here.
