Located on University of Hawaii, Hilo campus A new digital planetarium that highlights the role the night sky played in guiding the first ocean going explorers of the Pacific Ocean to find and inhabit the Hawaiian Island chain while making round trip voyages in large double-hulled sailing canoes An interesting museum is also located there.
ʻImiloa Astronomy Center has interactive exhibits, a full-dome planetarium, a landscape of native Hawaiian Plants, and a Restaurant with views of Hilo Bay. There are shows in the planetarium, and exhibits that explain (in English and Hawaiian) the importance of the stars to the early Polynesian voyagers who first discovered these islands. There's also a gift shop with beautiful, unique gifts, games, books, apparel, arts and crafts, and more.
