There are a few interesting routes to follow on the island of Chios. 1). WEST-From Vounaki square you follow the signs to AVGONIMA. Very interesting route***** NEA MONI MONASTERY-9th century- Medeival village of AVGONIMA (very good tavernas for lunch or early dinner, one is located at the central square and the other is looking at the Aegean and the island of Psarra)- Medeival village of ANAVATOS. 2). SOUTH- EMBORIOS-PYRGI- Visit the new Museum of Masticha, swim and have lunch at the outstanding beach of EMBORIOS,have your coffee in the afternoon at the unique sqare of PYRGI. On your way to Pyrgi is worth having a look at other medeival villages as ARMOLIA, PATRIKA, KALAMOTI which are very interesting. 3). SOUTH- MESTA- Famous medeival village and many more of them to see. Outside OLYMPOI there is an interesting pre-hestoric CAVE to see and then swim at the near by small beaches of AGIA DYNAMI. Unfortunately, this area has been seriously damaged by a fire, a couple of weeks ago. 4.) NORTH-WEST the so called area of AMANI which is characterised by a group of mountainous villages and long, clean beaches. Very interesting part of Chios. You can visit it from KARDAMYLA. About an hour and a half to reach. The capital of these villages is VOLISSOS and the best beach to swim is MANAGRO. Good food at LIMNIA. 5). Another ''must'' place to visit is the area of CAMPOS, just a few km. to the south from CHIOS. You will find yourself lost in small roads with beatifully designed houses from the 18th and 19th centuries, among citrus and orrange gardens. Try to visit ARGENTIKO HOTEL for a coffee, CITRUS HOUSE in order to buy home made sweets and marmalades and to see an interisting small musem with the histoy of Cambos.
