A 15 minute drive to trailhead. This is a popular trail taking you to, you guessed it, Ramona Falls!
This is a 7 mile roundtrip loop hike with gradual elevation gain and Ramona Falls is extraordinary. Highly recommend doing full loop because there are some stone cliff walls that you see on the return that are amazing. You do have to cross a ford where there are ever-changing logs for footing.
Ramona Falls is a jewel drawing visitors to the area. The Sandy River, a designated Wild and Scenic River, is a dramatic example of the forces that a glacial-fed river can bring forth to change the landscape. Physical signs of a volcanic debris flow from over 200 years ago are evident where the trail is near the Sandy River.
About 7 miles roundtrip, it’s a subtle uphill climb the 3.5 miles to the falls. Along the way, you get multiple, beautiful views of Mt. Hood’s peak, and the falls are absolutely worth it. Note that there’s a Sandy River crossing on a log, which may not be easy for children or people with physical challenges. This is a lollipop trail with an out-back portion and a loop.
